Why I Chose The Brand “Becoming”
I’ve always wanted to start my own business; it’s something I’ve dreamed about since I was young. I went to business school and started a few small community-focused businesses at university with my best friend. Those experiences taught me a lot about teamwork, creativity, and resilience. But when I started to think about building a business as my personal brand, I was drawn to the word "becoming." There’s something beautiful about it.
“Becoming” is about growth, transformation, and embracing the journey over the destination. I’ve never been known to stand still or not have a million things on the go. I love to learn, to master complex systems, and to dive headfirst into challenges. But most of all, I’d never claim to be the master of anything. With the world changing so fast, how could anyone? That’s ultimately why I chose "becoming": it’s about continually evolving into new versions of yourself. Becoming more travelled, becoming a runner, becoming a software consultant, becoming a life partner—and, of course, becoming a dog owner.
Becoming a Dog Owner
When I got Willa, I never expected our journey would be something I’d share online. It definitely wasn’t something I thought would resonate with so many people. And never in a million years did I imagine I’d get into content creation. But here we are. And I’m so grateful for it.
Willa has been a teacher, a companion, and a constant source of joy. Like many new dog owners, I initially had no idea what I was getting myself into. From researching the best food options to figuring out training techniques and understanding her unique quirks, every day brought new challenges and rewards. Sharing these experiences on my YouTube channel, Becoming a Dog Owner, started as a way to document Willa’s growth and my learning curve. But it quickly became so much more.
Building a Community
The community I’ve built on YouTube makes me smile every day. There’s something incredibly rewarding about connecting with people over shared experiences. My channel is by no means viral or my full-time job, but that’s part of what makes it special. It’s a passion project—a creative outlet in a life that’s otherwise very logic-driven. My full-time job in tech involves solving complex problems, which I enjoy because my mind thrives on structure and solutions. But it can also be exhausting. Creating content and engaging with my audience fills a different part of me—one that thrives on creativity, connection, and storytelling.
Reading your comments, hearing your stories, and knowing that something I’ve shared has helped or inspired you is one of the most fulfilling feelings I’ve ever experienced. Whether it’s someone thanking me for a dog training tip or sharing how they relate to Willa’s quirks, every interaction reminds me of why I started this journey.
The Unexpected Joy of Content Creation
What has surprised me the most is how incredible it feels to have a voice. Researching topics, learning from lived experiences, asking open questions, and having people genuinely listen and respond has been life-changing. It’s taught me the power of storytelling and the impact of authenticity.
When I first started, I worried about how I’d come across on camera or whether anyone would even watch. But over time, I’ve realized that people connect with honesty. They don’t expect perfection; they just want someone who’s willing to share their journey. And that’s exactly what I’ve tried to do—to share not just the highs but also the struggles, the lessons learned, and the moments of pure joy that come with owning a dog.
Looking Ahead
I’m not sure how long I’ll continue creating content—at least a couple more years, I think. But what this experience has taught me is to never let life pass you by. Always continue to become the best version of yourself, and amazing things can happen. You’ll surprise yourself with what you’re capable of.
As for Willa and me, our journey is far from over. There are still so many adventures to have, lessons to learn, and stories to share. And whether you’re a long-time subscriber or someone who just stumbled across my channel, I want to thank you. Thank you for supporting me, for sharing your stories, and for being part of this incredible community.
Why “Becoming” Matters
Ultimately, "becoming" is about embracing change and growth. It’s about understanding that life is a journey, not a destination. And it’s about finding joy in the process of transformation—whether you’re becoming a dog owner, a better partner, or simply a more fulfilled version of yourself.
Through this brand, I hope to inspire others to embrace their own journeys of becoming. To try new things, to take risks, and to celebrate the small wins along the way. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about where you end up. It’s about who you become along the way.
